The attitude of Russian society believed that Russian
culture and traditions were at stake. It was this atmosphere
that led to the harassment of French and German immigrants. It
reached a point where it was not longer possible for them to remain
in Russia.
Most of these Germans eventually came to America. Large
numbers settled in the Midwest during the last half of the 19th
century. From the Midwest they spread in all directions in the
United States
Evangelical Germans from the BLACK SEA AREA settled in NORTH DAKOTA,
SOUTH DAKOTA, KANSAS, TEXAS AND OKLAHOMA. Catholic Germans
also settled in the MISSOURI AND THE DAKOTAS. Evangelical
Germans from the VOLGA AREA settled in OKLAHOMA, COLORADO, NEBRASKA
AND MINNESOTA. The German Catholics settled in COLORADO AND
KANSAS.
After the 1919 revolution which overthrew the Czarist regime, the
remaining groups were no longer welcome, immigrating this time to
CANADA.
