Obituary for David R. Hozwarth Sr
MABEL -- The funeral for David R. Holzwarth Sr.,
will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Scheie Lutheran
Church in rural Mabel, with the Rev. Mary Waudby
officiating. Burial will be in the church
cemetery.
Mr. Holzwarth, 58, of rural Mabel, died Tuesday
(April 10, 2007) at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in
La Crosse, Wis.
Born Feb. 23, 1949, in Minneapolis, he was adopted
by Raymond and Goldie (Holt) Holzwarth of
Brownsville. He attended school in Brownsville,
St. Johns of Caledonia, and graduated from
Caledonia High School in 1967. During those times
he enjoyed wrestling, and playing piano and organ
for church and other functions. After school he
went into custom farming. On Sept. 18, 1971, he
married Cathy Myhre of Spring Grove. They lived in
Caledonia, Houston, Eitzen, and Spring Grove
before settling in Mabel, where they lived for the
past 21 years.
He worked most of his life in over-the-road
trucking, farming and restoring older John Deere
tractors. The last few years he had worked with
the Amish. He enjoyed working at Steam Engine
Days, taking his granddaughters on a wagon ride
through the parade, deer hunting, and spending
time with his neighbors and friends.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Rebecca
(Michael) Carmack of Caledonia, David Jr. of
Mabel, Benjamin (Shanna) of Waukon, Iowa, Tina
(Steve) of Mabel and Andrew of La Crosse; 11
granddaughters; and a brother, Daniel Holzwarth
Sr. of Maine. He was preceded in death by his
parents.

Obituary for Catherine M. Myhre
Cathy was born June 13, 1953 in St. Paul,
Minnesota. She was adopted by Carlton and Clara (Asleson)
Myhre of Spring Grove, Minnesota. In 1971 she
graduated from the Spring Grove High School.
On September 18, 1971 she married David Holzwarth,
Sr. The lived in Caledonia, Houston, Eitzen, and
Spring Grove, before settling in Mabel where they
lived for 21 years.
She had worked at the Redwood in Caledonia, the
Cliff House in Decorah, Walmart, and helped on the
farm.
David passed away April 10, 2007. After David’s
passing, she moved to Canton where she had resided
since.
She was a member of the Scheie Lutheran Church,
and enjoyed her horses, sewing, quilting, reading,
and spending time with her grandchildren.
Cathy passed away unexpectedly on April 18, 2018
at her home at the age of 64.
She is survived by four children, Rebecca
Holzwarth of Mabel, Benjamin (Shanna) of Waukon,
Iowa, Tina (Steve) Wallin of Mabel, and Andrew
(Andrea Forcey) of LaCrosse; and 11 grandchildren,
Kalinda Kolek, Katrina Holzwarth, Piper Carmack,
Paige Carmack, Brooklyn Wallin, Brianna Wallin,
Sean Wallin, Steven Wallin III, Harli Holzwarth,
Hally Holzwarth, and Hayden Holzwarth.
She was preceded in death by her husband David,
Sr., a son David, Jr., her parents, and a brother
John Myhre. |
