Funeral service for Helen
Holzwarth, 84, of Selby and formerly of Mound City
will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at
Herreid Baptist Church. The Rev. Steve Swann Jr.
and the Rev. Merle Hoots will officiate.
Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Herreid.
There will be a prayer service at 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday with visitation from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
at the funeral home.
She died Dec. 19, 2010, at Selby Good Samaritan
Center.
Helen Linderman, daughter of Jacob and Helen (Deibert)
Linderman was born July 22, 1926, 11 miles
southwest of Herreid in Campbell County. She
attended Green Valley Country School and later
Herreid Public Schools, graduating with the class
of 1944. She then attended Northern Normal and
Industrial School in Aberdeen and received her
teacher's certificate. She taught school in
Campbell County for five years.
She was united in marriage to Ervin Holzwarth on
June 23, 1946, in Herreid Baptist Church. They
made their home southeast of Mound City on his
family's farm, where they were general farmers
raising small grains, livestock and dairy. They
semi-retired in 1995. In 2001, they moved into the
assisted living at Herreid Good Samaritan Center.
In March 2005, she entered the Selby Good
Samaritan Center for nursing care. Ervin died Oct.
9, 2009.
Helen was very creative and loved crafts and
sewing. She enjoyed music, reading and was a great
cook. Helen will be remembered as being a great
mother and wonderful role model; this involved
having a good sense of humor. Her faith was her
compass in life, and she tried everyday to live by
her faith.
She was a member of Herreid Baptist Church, where
she had been very active.
Survivors include three daughters, LeAnn (Gary)
Horner of Herreid, Cheryl Holzwarth of Aberdeen
and Deanna (Ron) Byers of Wayzata, Minn; one son,
Mark (Susan) Holzwarth of Mound City; one brother,
Walter (Barb) Linderman of Rapid City; two
stepbrothers; two stepsisters; one sister-in-law,
Elaine Linderman of Huron; six grandchildren; and
four great-grandchildren.
Her parents; husband; one infant daughter, Noreen;
one brother, Arthur; one stepbrother; and two
stepsisters preceded her in death.
Honorary casketbearers will be Helen's
granddaughters and granddaughter-in-law, Jessica
Jahraus, Lisa Ochsner and Mandy Horner.
Casketbearers will be Helen's grandsons and
grandsons-in-law, Ryan Horner, Justin Horner,
Bradley Horner, Brent Horner, Dustin Jahraus and
Tyler Ochsner.
The organist will be Ruth Mittleider, and the
soloist will be the Rev. Merle Hoots. The ushers
will be Donly Schaeffer and Lauren Berndt.
Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka has been entrusted
with arrangements.
