James Inman Obituary

James “Jim” Robert Inman, 58, Bismarck, died August 5, 2009, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Jeff Tengesdal and Pastor Craig Schweitzer officiating. Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm Sunday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm.

Jim was born August 16, 1950, in Bismarck, ND, the son of James and Phyllis (Schauer) Inman. He was raised and educated in the Midwest and South Carolina. In August 1971, he married Sue Schmidt and they had three children, Brian, Erik, and Patrick. In 1972, Jim graduated from the Bismarck Police Academy. He was with the Burleigh County Sheriff's Department for four years and the Bismarck Police Department for four years. He also served as security for Governor Sinner through the North Dakota Highway Patrol. In 1985, Jim started the business, Jim’s Moving and Storage.

In July 1992, he married Joan Skarphol; together they had two children, Jenna and James. Jim joined Cellular One in 1993 and then became an independent dealer and opened Cellular Plus at Kirkwood Mall in 1995 through 2001. The next five years he worked as Parish Administrator at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck; he made many dear friends and enjoyed his time working there. At the time of his retirement, he was employed at Dixon Brothers, Mandan, ND, as a terminal manager.

Jim is survived by his wife, Joan, Bismarck; his daughter, Jenna, Bismarck; his sons, James, and Brian (Tawnya), Bismarck, and Erik (Desiree) and Patrick (Starla), Rochester, MN; his grandchildren, Miriah, Caitlyn, Astyia, Miles, Carter, and Abigail; his mother, Phyllis and her husband, Ed Hall, Wrightsville, GA; his brothers, Roger (Catherine), Tampa, FL, and Bruce, Mandan, ND; his sisters, Wanda (Dick) Coticchio, Wrightsville, GA, Linda (Harold) Gilfillan, Spartanburg, SC, and Robin Inman (Greg Schulz), Bismarck, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, and his sister, Brenda Wright.

Jim’s family deeply appreciates the support they received during his illness.
