Milbert Grenz Obituary


Gillette resident Milbert “Mel” Grenz, 83, died Friday, July 27, 2018, at his home from respiratory problems he had suffered from over the past year.
Memorial services for Mr. Grenz begin at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Moose Lodge.


He was born Aug. 8, 1934, in Trail City, South Dakota. He lived and worked in different places in South Dakota until moving to Gillette in 1973.
He worked jobs in construction until hiring on with Cundy Asphalt, where he worked for 20 years until his retirement in 1999.
He met his lifetime companion, Joyce Johnson, in 1990. They remained together for 28 years.
Mr. Grenz was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Mr. and Mrs. Grenz enjoyed being active members of both clubs.
They also took great pleasure in trips to Wendover, Nevada, and Deadwood, South Dakota, to satisfy his passion for gambling.

He will be missed and remembered for his warm smile and the twinkle in his eye, along with his sense of humor and engaging conversation.

Mr. Grenz is survived by his companion, Joyce Johnson; son, Lenny Carlson; sister, Wilma Gregor; stepdaughters, Janice Faris and Joanette Wardell; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Justina (Hauss) Grenz and Joseph Grenz; brother, Ben Grenz; and sisters, Freida Aman, Irene Goehring and Lorraine Allis.
