Gloria Harter
age 86, of Browns Valley, Minnesota passed away Friday, December 20, 2019
at the Browns Valley Health Center in Browns Valley,
Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 27, 2019 at
1:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Browns Valley with Rev.
Larry Johnson officiating. Organist will be Ginny Westbrock.
Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, rural Browns Valley,
Minnesota. Pallbearers will be Larry Rose, Travis Cleem,
Nathan Lofberg, Jarred Cleem, Mark Lykken and Alex Kutzke.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 27th from 11:00
a.m. until service time at the church.
Gloria Elvera Harter was born March 31, 1933 in Hallock,
Minnesota to Frank and Tillie (Dykhuis) Cleem. She was
baptized April 11, 1933 and confirmed in 1948 at Hallock
Evangelical Lutheran Church by Pastor Ervin C. Malm. She
attended District #55 school and graduated from Hallock High
School. She furthered her education at Moorhead State
Teachers College from 1951 until 1953 receiving her teachers
degree.
She taught school in Karlstad, Minnesota from 1953 until
1955 and in Beardsley, Minnesota from 1955 until 1958. She
was united in marriage to Clarence Jake Harter on July 5,
1956 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hallock, MN. The couple
resided east of Wheaton, MN until the mid 1960’s when they
moved to a home on the Minnesota side of Lake Traverse.
Gloria worked at the Browns Valley Community Library and as
a receptionist at Sam Browns Memorial Cabin.
Gloria worked on the farm with Clarence where they farmed
and raised sheep. Gloria always had a large garden and loved
canning. She raised a lot of flowers around their home.
Clarence passed away in November of 1991. Gloria moved into
Browns Valley following Clarence’s death, where she resided
until entering the Browns Valley Health Center three months
ago. Gloria had a very strong faith and was a regular
attendee at church on Sunday mornings. She was very family
based and loved time spent with grandchildren.
Gloria is survived by her son Gregory (Ann) Harter of
Beardsley, MN; two sisters: Loretta (Ernie) Rose of Portage,
MI; and Verna (Lorne) Lofberg of Bemidji, MN; two brothers:
Iver (Cathy Jane) Cleem of Hallock, MN; and Marvin (Mary
Lou) Cleem of Abbeville, AL; numerous grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and
two brothers: Glen and Allan Cleem.
