Gus E. Rivinius, 81, of Lodi died Dec. 2 in a local convalescent hospital following a short illness. He was born on Feb 11, 1913 in Streeter, N.D.
Mr. Rivinius moved to Portland, Ore. in 1945 and moved to Lockeford later in the year.
He taught school in Streeter for nine years, and was a pipe fitter at Kaiser shipyards during World War II. In Lockeford, he was co-owner of Seaside Service Station & Garage for 16 years. He also worked for Nickel's Auto Parts House in Galt, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Rivinius was a charter volunteer fireman for Mokelumne Fire Departement in Victor for 25 years. He was a 47-year member of IOOF Progressive Lodge 134 in Lockeford, and retired from there as treasurer in September of this year. He was also a member of SIRS Branch 18 in Lodi.
He married Helen Bieber of Gackle, N.D. in August of 1935. He was a graduate of Streeter High School and Ellendale State Normal School, where he received his teaching credentials.
Mr. Rivinius enjoyed traveling, gardening and helping people in need.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Rivinius of Lodi; four sisters, Matilda Enzminger of Lodi, Otilda Noyes and Alice Dewald of North Dakota, and Leona Schwartzwalter of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by one brother.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lodi Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Kildall and the Rev. Dr. Vernon Kraft presiding, assisted by IOOF Progressive Lodge 134.

Helen Bieber Rivinius , 83, of Lodi, died on Oct. 31 in a local hospital following a brief illness. She was born Helen Bieber in Gackle, N.D., on Feb 15, 1915

Mrs. Rivinius lived in Portland, Ore. in the early 1940s and moved to Lockeford in 1945. She came to Lodi in 1989.
During World War II, she was employed in a shipyard in Portland from 1943 to 1945. After moving to Lockeford, she was employed in Lodi at Foster & Wood, Stokleys and Pacific Coast Producers canneries for 40 years, the last 25 years as a laboratory supervisor.

She was also a school teacher for six years in a rural school near Streeter, N.D., before moving to Portland. Mrs. Rivinius was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local No. 601, and the Lodi Garden Club.
She graduated from Gackle High School and married Gus Rivinius in Streeter on Aug. 19, 1935. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, arts and crafts.

Mrs. Rivinius is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus E. Rivinius in 1995; three brother, Jacob, Ephraim and Edward Bieber; and two sisters, Lydia Jenner and Caroline Rath.

A chapel service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lodi Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Kildall officiating.
