Obituary

Idella Jane Boschee

The funeral for Idella Jane Boschee, Zeeland, ND will be held on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church in Zeeland, ND. Visitation will be held one hour before the service in the church.

Idella (Ochsner) Boschee was born on April 17, 1927 to Chris and Minnie (Pfeifer) Ochsner on the family farm 3 miles west of Zeeland, ND as the first of 8 children. She attended an Emmons County one room rural school, which was about a half mile from the family farm for grades 1 through 8. She continued her education at Zeeland High School where she lived with a family in Zeeland and graduated in 1945.

After high school, Idella took a train to Pullman, WA to attend Nursing College at Washington State University. To pay for her education and living expenses, she worked in a cannery in the local area. She eventually decided that nursing wasn’t her calling and returned home. Upon returning to Zeeland, she started working as a clerk in the Zeeland Post Office.
It was then that she met Thomas Boschee and was married on June 20, 1948 in the Dutch Reformed Church in Zeeland ND, with a large reception held at the Ochsner family farm, where a good time was had by all! Their marriage was blessed with 5 children and 57+ years together. They lived on the Boschee family farm just east of Zeeland where they raised their family and farmed for many years. In addition to being a farmer’s wife and mother, she worked full time at the McIntosh County Bank, part time in the grocery store and eventually returned to the Zeeland Post Office as the clerk. In December 1984, she became Post Master where she worked until she retired in 1992 after 29 years of service.

When Idella was around 12 years old she contracted Rheumatic fever. Medical care was very limited at that time in the local areas. She survived the fever, although it caused damage to her heart. Many years later Idella had open heart surgery to replace a severely damaged heart valve. However, this didn’t stop her from living a very full and active life.

Idella had a wonderful sense of humor and would love to joke around with others. She was commonly known as either “Miss Sunshine” or “Trouble” to her friends. She was very social and was involved in many different activities and organizations: teaching Sunday School, 4H Leader, Dakota Lioness Club, Homemakers Club, Birthday Club, Ladies Aid, bowling league, ceramics and going to all her kid’s sporting and school events, many times riding along with Thomas as he drove the school bus to the games. She continued attending school events as a member of the community long after her kids had graduated. Idella loved to travel and went on many trips with Thomas after they retired and then later with her lady friends. In 1972, she became a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and was previously part of St. Johns Reformed Church, where she was an involved member in both congregations. Idella was an excellent cook and baker. She was most known for her Sunday Soup and her white cake with fudge frosting cupcakes. Her family will cherish all the wonderful memories she provided especially the family gathering for holidays.

Idella met our Lord peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor Retirement Community in Aberdeen, SD, where she was living for the last month. Even during this difficult time, she showed courage and grace which is how she lived her entire life. She was 91 years old.

Idella is survived by her 5 children: Bruce (Kathy) Boschee, of Aberdeen SD and their children, Aden and Myles; Wayne Boschee of Washburn, ND; Larry Boschee of Zeeland, ND; Pamela (Greg) Olund of Chanhassen, MN and their children Hannah and Benjamin; and Curt Boschee (Karen Hillerman) of Brooklyn Park, MN.

Idella is also survived by her 5 siblings: Ioan Ochsner of Cathedral City, CA; Ramona (Ochsner) Levi of Glendora, CA; Vern Ochsner of Lacey, WA; Isle Ochsner of Minneapolis, MN; and Russell Ochsner of Bellevue, WA. In addition, to nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.

Idella was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Boschee; her parents Chris and Minnie Ochsner; an infant sister Burla Ochsner and an infant brother Jerome Ochsner.
