She was the only child born to Raymond and Ruth
Keim on December 8, 1948, in Eureka, SD. Karen
graduated from Bismarck High School in 1966. She
devoted her life to her two sons, Jason and Justin
Marter, along with the many businesses she owned
and operated. She owned several local businesses
including four hair salons, a clothing store and a
tattoo business which is currently still owned and
operated by her son Justin. Two of her hair salons
were nationally accredited and recognized as some
of the finest in the country. She enjoyed dealing
with various clients from all of these businesses
and loved entertaining all of them. From the
little kids to the Senators and Governors that
would frequent these establishments. One of her
favorite things to do was travel the country with
her family on BMX trips and going to the boys
sporting events where she was the loudest
supporter, even if the boys were embarrassed by
this they loved the encouragement they received.
She was an avid collector of head vases, old gas
station pumps and memorabilia signs along with her
extensive Christmas collection. She was known to
be very lucky for her numerous casino checks and
big bingo wins!! She also enjoyed traveling. She
had been to numerous states and overseas to
Amsterdam. She always had a passion for travel and
surrounding herself with great family and great
people whether it was for business or pleasure.
Some of her earliest memories were helping her dad
Raymond on the job sites where he was an
electrician and handyman after he retired from the
US military. She loved spending time with her
mother Ruth who was an editor at the Bismarck
Tribune for 30 years. She loved spending time with
her two granddaughters, Hailee and Suby and her
grandson, Cade who were the love of her life.
She is survived by her two sons, Jason and Justin
Marter; one daughter-in-law, Anna; and her
