Leona E. Schwartzwalter,
89, Moorhead, MN, formerly of Streeter, ND, passed away
peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 in the Eventide
Lutheran home, Moorhead.
Leona Elaine Rivinius was born Oct. 6, 1922 in Streeter, ND,
to Conrad and Katherina (Grenz) Rivinius. She attended
school in Streeter and graduated from Streeter High School.
She later attended Ellendale Teachers College, where she
received her teaching certificate. Leona began teaching in
rural schools, where she met her future husband, Milton
Schwartzwalter. They were married on Oct. 24, 1946 in Fargo,
ND. The resided on a farm west of Streeter and Leona
continued to teach for the Streeter Public School. In 1969,
they moved to Minneapolis, MN, where she began working for
the Red Owl Store in Hopkins, MN, as a receiving clerk,
until her retirement. Mr. Schwartzwalter died on Nov. 24,
1998.
Leona enjoyed her time with her family and friends and also
traveling, which was highlighted by her traveling to the
Holy Land (Israel) and Germany.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, son, Dennis and
several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one son, Merl (Lauralee), Pahrump, NV;
four grandchildren, Chad (Aimee) Schwartzwalter, Kristen
(Dion) Weinberger, Marsha (Dave) Schwartzwalter and Steven
Schwartzwalter; five great grandchildren; one sister, Alice
Dewald, Streeter, ND; one sister-in-law, Lena Schuler,
Bismarck, ND and one daughter-in-law, Ardella Schwartwalter,
Fargo.
Burial: Monday, Sept. 24 at 1 pm in the Friedens Cemetery,
rural Streeter, ND.
