Mildred “Mickey” Dick Trost, 91, formerly of
Greensboro, NC and Wilmington, NC, passed away in her sleep
at the Levine-Dickinson Hospice Home in Charlotte, NC on
December 16, 2016. Mickey was born on August 30, 1925 in
Guilford County, NC to John and Johnsie Cobb Dick. After
finishing a course of study at King’s Business College,
Mickey worked as a secretary for Remington in Greensboro. It
was here that she met her future husband, Herb Trost. They
were married on December 26, 1959. She then served as a
school secretary before having children and later began
substitute teaching in the local Guilford County elementary
schools. Mickey’s greatest love was as a wife, mother,
grandmother and homemaker. Throughout her life, she enjoyed
activities such as cooking, sewing, gardening, reading,
serving in churches, volunteering at Cape Fear Memorial
Hospital in Wilmington, traveling with Herb, and sharing her
beautiful gift of love with everyone she met. In addition to
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51
years. Also preceding her in death were her brothers and
sisters Alma Robinson, Branson Dick, Hilda Oliver, Waldo
Dick, Glenn Dick, Ann Donnell, and Vera Mae Dick. Mickey is
survived by daughter Cynthia Trost Parsons and husband
Jeffrey of Charlotte, son Carlton of Raleigh, NC,
grandchildren Ian Parsons of Charlotte and Olivia Trost of
Raleigh, and other family members. The family would
especially like to thank the devoted caregivers of the
Aldersgate Retirement Community and the Levine-Dickinson
Hospice House for their loving care. A memorial service will
be held Wednesday, December 28, at 2:00pm in the chapel at
Aldersgate Retirement Community, the Rev. Dr. Milton Gilbert
and the Rev. Karen Moore presiding. An interment service
will be held in the spring of 2017 in Wilmington. The family
requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her
honor to Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte. A beloved
wife, mother, grandmother and loving friend will be missed
but never forgotten. McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon
Memorial Park is honored to be entrusted with the care of
Mrs. Trost and her family.
