Robert passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
Bob was born on May 5, 1930 to Henry and Bertha (Zeller) Bieber. He was raised on the family farm near Trail City. He attended the Harding School for his primary education and attended high school at both McLaughlin Public School and the Lutheran Academy in Mobridge. He served in the Marine Corps and was very proud to be the elder member of a three-generation Marine family.

On March 15, 1954 Bob married Theresa Schweitzer and the couple made their home in rural Trail City. Bob and Theresa were hard working family farmers and together united the farmsteads of both Bob’s and Theresa’s families. As proud alumni of the Harding School family, Bob and Theresa helped to organized many school reunions. The Harding School still stands as a country school museum on the prairie.

Bob was also an active member of the community and served with several organizations. He spent many years on the McLaughlin School Board, serving as a board member and later as its president. Bob served on the Board of Directors for the Moreau-Grand Electric Cooperative. He also worked closely with the Trail City Fire Department. Even though farming and community activities took much of Bob’s time, he thoroughly enjoyed spending time on the prairie. He loved the native grasses and spent many hours exploring the banks of the creek that ran through the family farm. Each calving season, Bob somehow found enough crocus flowers to present a bouquet to Theresa. After many years near Trail City, Bob and Theresa retired from farming in the year 2000 and moved to Yankton.

Bob is survived by his wife Theresa of Yankton, 8 children: Deborah Hout (Carmen) of Sioux Falls; Susan Thompson (Robert) of Rapid City; Richard Bieber of Trail City; Patricia Wrucke (Mark) of Farmington, MN; Irene Cardwell (Leonard) of Topeka KS; Steven (Barb) Bieber of New Underwood; Lucy Lewno (Thomas) of Yankton; Joyce Kindvall (Gaylund) of Brookings, sisters: Pearl Johnson-Barrett of Rapid City; Lyla VanOrman of Mandan., 19 Grandchildren, and 17 Great-Grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bertha Bieber; Theresa’s parents, Pete and Frances Schweitzer; 1 sister Bernice Redlin; 4 brothers Henry (Kenny) Bieber, George (Dick) Bieber, and 2 infant twin brothers Gehardt and Bernhardt.
