Observation: The Nepali people love their children. They dote on
them, and yet, the children do not seem to be spoiled. As they
live from day to day and grow up, they must participate within a
tight family unit in order to survive in this harsh environment. It is a culture very much about needs, and the wants are only
dreams.
It is Evening
It
was a short trek today, four hours, and we took our time. We are in Sete. I feel great, much stronger and I feel as if I could have gone further.
Today, on the trail, Dawa said I was very clever. By giving him
money up front he becomes the organizer. When the people ask who
is paying, he says he is, and we get a good price. Well I am not
sure who is the clever one. He knows everyone on the trail, and
the Tea houses we stay at are all owned by his friends.
Today I watched four porters carry one inch steel cable. Each
porter carries about eight three foot coils in his doku (carrying
basket), and each
is linked together. I asked if I could try lifting one. It wasn’t
so much heavy as extremely uncomfortable and unwieldy.
