BY GOSH AND BY GUESS
My Grandma was a good cook
Who used few recipes
She said she cooked by gosh and guess
But didn’t tell how much of each.
Whenever meals like Grandma’s
I tried to replicate,
I used some gosh, I used some guess,
But I’d miscalculate.
A little more guess, a lot more gosh
‘Til I found the right combination.
Then I wrote the proportions down.
My goal was duplication.
Over time I have improved
My “gosh and guess” creations--
Perhaps a result of maturity,
Or development of patience.
