Johannes Obituary
A resident of the Zeeland community since 1894,
John R. Pfeifer, age 83, died Thursday, April 11
at the Eureka Hospital after a lingering illness.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 15, in
the Zion Lutheran Church, of which he was a
charter member, with Rev Ernst Klaszus
officiating. Burial was made in the Lutheran
Cemetery. While still a young boy he lived in
Romania and in 1886, two years after the death of
his father, he came to the United States. Mr.
Pfeifer worked on farms in South Dakota until his
marriage to Elizabeth Reimer at Yankton, S.D. six
years before the turn of the century. The couple
homesteaded 1/2 mile went of Zeeland where they
farmed for over 50 years. It was in 1928 that
they left the farm and moved to town but continued
to operate the farm with the help of their son
Henry. To this union 12 children were born. Grenz
